07 Nov Beacon of the Bay
Egmont Key is a Florida State Park and a National Wildlife Refuge! It’s also on the National Register of Historic Places!
It’s an island at the mouth of Tampa Bay and since it lies within the Tampa Port shipping channel, is within Hillsborough County. It has a huge nesting colony of seabirds, is a migrant trap for migratory songbirds and hummingbirds and has a large population of gopher tortoises, which are listed as a threatened species in Florida.
It is accessible by ferry from Fort DeSoto Park in Pinellas County.
