27 Sep Inspiration is All Around
When most kids were still using crayons, Noelle Malfa had already graduated to watercolors, impressing instructors at the Pasco Fine Arts Council where she enrolled in painting class at age six. “It was the only place that would take me at such a young age,” said Nicole. Now 15, the Palm Harbor teen has mastered everything from acrylics and watercolor to charcoal. Nicole won fourth place in the 2016 Florida Junior Duck Stamp Competition and first in her age group for her painting of a female mottled duck and chicks, one of several state awards she’s claimed.
Noelle totes a small camera everywhere, to capture scenes that inspire her artwork. The symphony of hues in Lake Tarpon at Sunset reflects her love of waterscapes and the ways water reflects light. “With acrylics, you can build on layers. I like the blending of colors and the complex compositions you can make.”
“I like taking the viewer into the painting. Art is a really great form of expression that in a way helps show my personality.” The high schooler has started classes in graphic design, which she’s considering as a career.
Did you know? Lake Tarpon is the largest freshwater lake in the Tampa Bay watershed.
